Connecting through King Abdulaziz International Airport

Many travelers pass through King Abdulaziz International Airport as part of longer journeys, especially when direct flights are unavailable or when stopovers offer more flexibility. If you are connecting through Jeddah, your next steps may include changing terminals, passing through security, and finding your gate for the onward flight.

We recommend checking the itinerary and confirming details with your airline if your flights are not booked together, as this may affect baggage handling and visa requirements.

Types of Connecting Flights at King Abdulaziz International Airport

International Connections

If you have an International connecting flight through Jeddah (e.g., New York – Jeddah – Abu Dhabi), you will need to go through check-in to receive your boarding pass, followed by a security check before proceeding to your boarding gate.

If your connecting flight is from an International origin to a Domestic destination passing through Jeddah (e.g., New York – Jeddah – Riyadh), you will go through passport control to have your passport stamped, collect your baggage if required, then check-in for your Domestic flight before heading to the Domestic boarding gates.

Domestic Connections

If you have a Domestic connecting flight through Jeddah (e.g., Riyadh – Jeddah – Dammam), you will need to collect your baggage, then proceed through i-validate and security check before heading to your boarding gate in the Domestic Departures area.

If your connecting flight is from a Domestic origin to an International destination passing through Jeddah (e.g., Riyadh – Jeddah – New York), you must collect your baggage, then check in and obtain your boarding pass for the International flight. After that, please proceed to passport control to have your passport stamped, then through the security check, and take the automated people mover to reach the International boarding gates.

What to Know Before You Travel

King Abdulaziz International Airport has multiple terminals. Your connecting flight may depart from a different terminal. Make sure you have enough time to move between them.
Follow the signs and display screens inside the airport to guide you through the transfer journey.
All connecting passengers must undergo security screening again, where all baggage regulations, including the 100ml liquid rule, will still be in effect.
For airline-protected connections, checked baggage is usually transferred automatically. We recommend confirming with your airline before travelling.
If all connecting flights are booked separately, you are not considered a connecting passenger. You will need to go through immigration, collect your baggage, and complete check-in and security again for your next flight.
