Sustainability at KAIA

Lasting act, where sustainability creates a greener impact. We don’t just act, we create impact.

Latest update: 15.02.2026

In line with the recent environmental actions of the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia (KSA), including the launch of the Saudi Green Initiative, the Middle East Green Initiative, and the expansion of solar and wind power plants, Saudi Arabia has announced its commitment to achieving net-zero carbon emissions by 2060 under Vision 2030 in response to climate change.

In compliance with the Net-Zero Carbon Vision, Jeddah Airports Company (JEDCO) is committed to identifying all sources of carbon emissions, structuring a comprehensive carbon footprint, and implementing measurable emission-reduction initiatives.

Achieving this reduction requires the effective development of an Environmental Management System and active monitoring of energy consumption and carbon emissions through advanced instruments and technologies, including:

  • Implementation of ISO 14001:2015 Environmental Management System standards.
  • Limiting energy usage and transportation emissions by encouraging walking, cycling, public transport, and low-energy vehicles, and optimizing buildings, equipment, and operations.
  • Procuring electricity and energy from low- or zero-carbon sources.
  • Electrification initiatives in transportation (e.g., electric vehicles, electric trains) and heating systems (e.g., heat pumps and electric heating).
  • Energy and water efficiency improvement initiatives.
  • Adoption of renewable energy sources such as solar, wind, geothermal, and hydropower, which have the lowest life-cycle emissions.
  • Procurement of high-quality carbon credits and renewable energy certificates.

JEDCO is committed to reducing carbon emissions and will continue enhancing its Carbon Policy to foster a long-term carbon neutrality goal.

JEDCO commits to achieve Net-Zero carbon emission by 2050 from a 2023 base year. This will be achieved by active monitoring of carbon footprints, audits, implementation of energy efficiency initiatives and carbon offsetting techniques. JEDCO commits to reduce absolute Scope 1 and Scope 2 GHG by at least 42% (In line with SBTi 1.5 C pathway near term target) by 2030 from the base year 2023.

JEDCO commits to proactive engagement with airlines, ground handlers, tenants, service providers and transport operators to reduce Scope 3 greenhouse gas emissions associated with airport activities through collaboration, incentives and joint decarbonization initiatives.
